What is the Straddie Assault?
It’s one of Australia’s longest running team surfing competitions, with teams from premier clubs between Noosa and Lennox Heads. This spectacular event is a blast to watch, and a good excuse to chill on the beach for the day!
The event is commentated by Brad Lee, and there’s be lots of world class surfers competing, including people on the world tour.
When is it?
Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd October, from 7am to 4pm each day. On Sunday afternoon, head to the Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel for the announcement of the Champion Club!

Where is it?
The Straddie Assault is almost always held on Main Beach at Point Lookout. If weather conditions aren’t suitable, it may be moved to Cylinder Beach.
How do I get there, and are there any discounts?
If you’re taking a car, simply quote ASSAULT17 to receive 20% off your return transfer. The vehicle ferries arrive at Dunwich, so you’ll be about a 20 minute drive away from the event. Ferries leave as early as 5.30am, so you won’t miss anything!
If you’re on foot, you can catch the water taxi for $20 return per adult, and then jump on the island bus for $10 return. The bus will take you all the way up to the headland where you’ll be a short walk from Main Beach. The first passenger ferry with a connecting bus leaves at 6.55am, but you’ll only miss the first hour of the comp.
Where can I sit to watch?
Anywhere on the beach or the headland. Bring a comfy chair or towel and find a spot to spend the day. But don’t forget to put on some sunscreen!
Will there be food and drinks nearby?
You’ll find an awesome selection of food and drinks set up on the headland nearby, including bacon and egg burgers, BBQ steak burgers, tea and coffee, juice and even gelato – and you’d be supporting local island businesses! You can also pick up a very cool Straddie Assault 17 t-shirt 😊
